A vertical autoclave is a hermetically sealed container which is heated and used to carry out a variety of chemical processes. Laboratory autoclaves can be designed as so-called horizontal or vertical autoclaves. Horizontal autoclaves have "standard" opening doors, and inside there is usually a rack for placing the various trays with contents. Vertical autoclaves have the door opening "upwards" and the items to be sterilised are placed in them from above, very often they are large appliances and the items are placed in specially constructed containers (buckets, pails) which provide free access of steam. At normal atmospheric pressure, the temperature of the water bath is limited to 100 °C, whereas with autoclaves, increasing the pressure inside the system causes the water to boil at a much higher temperature. The pressure inside the autoclave is regulated and limited by an automatic pressure valve. High pressure and high temperature allow many chemical processes to be accelerated. The autoclave is made up of a main vessel, a lid and accessories. The main vessel is a metal boiler with thick walls, which is able to withstand very high pressure inside. The autoclave lid (or, in the case of horizontal autoclaves, the door) is also made of thick-walled material and has the ability to close very solidly and accurately to create a strong and tight seal. A pressure gauge and thermometer indicate the conditions inside the system and a pressure relief valve protects against uncontrolled pressure build-up inside. Vertical autoclaves are very commonly used to sterilise a variety of materials as well as bacterial media. The chamber, housing and lid of vertical autoclaves are made of high quality AISI-304 stainless steel. Control of sterilisation processes takes place automatically through the use of a microprocessor. The device can have many different sterilisation programmes and also a programmable auto-start with delayed operation. The lid of the vertical autoclave is opened horizontally, ensuring maximum ergonomics and minimising the risk of steam burns. The autoclaves offered by our company are perfectly protected as they are equipped with a safety valve, an open lid sensor and a thermostat. Vertical autoclaves can also be equipped with the possibility of exporting results to a computer, drawing graphs and comparing them with already saved databases.
