Exsiccators are laboratory vessels made of borosilicate glass used for storing samples under normal pressure of steam-sensitive samples and used for careful drying and storage under vacuum. Depending on their intended use, some desiccators are equipped with a means of quickly absorbing moisture that enters the interior of the exsiccator when it is opened. Exsiccators for storing samples under vacuum, moreover, are equipped with an oil faucet and a pressure gauge. A vacuum pump is connected to the faucet and then the pressure inside the desiccator is slowly reduced. The manometer is designed to monitor the vacuum, which is maintained for several months.
