LyoBeta Mini Telstar freeze-dryers

LyoBeta Mini freeze-dryers are units designed for formulation of biological, pharmaceutical and food products and for "scale-up," facilitating technology transfer to R&D and manufacturing centers. They are high-performance units with a GLP design that allows the entire lyophilization process to be carried out fully automatically with monitoring capabilities.

LyoBeta Mini freeze-dryers allow fully automatic processing of a full freeze-drying cycle according to specific profiles. Process recipes can be easily edited on the touchscreen or in LyoSuite SCADA software and run in automatic, semi-automatic or manual mode. At any time, automatic mode can be turned off, paused, restarted or switched to semi-automatic or manual mode.

Chamber and door:
  • Rectangular shaped freeze-drying chamber made of AISI 316L stainless steel polished to a roughness of 0.5 m Ra
  • Internal dimensions: W384 x D440 x H278 mm
  • On the side of the chamber prepared DN 50 KF connection for connecting manifold/collector for 29/32 grind freeze-drying vessels (optional)
  • The door is made of transparent acrylic material, which allows observation of the process
  • The door adheres to a silicone gasket specifically designed for vacuums
  • Hinges are located on the right side, door opening angle 180ºC

Shelves:
  • The shelves are made of AISI 316L stainless steel polished to a roughness of 0.5 m Ra;
  • The shelves are temperature controlled by circulating a thermal fluid (silicone oil), ensuring accurate and uniform temperature control at all points of the shelves
  • Shelf dimensions: W228 x D390 mm
  • Usable total area available for freeze-drying material from 0.09 to 0.18 m2
  • At the very top of the chamber there is a shelf with an additional discharge to compensate for the heating by radiation produced by the lower shelves, thus ensuring the same conditions on all shelves.
  • Freeze-drying shelves with built-in temperature control of at least -60 to +80ºC;

Condenser:
  • Condenser is made of stainless steel with a cylindrical structure, arranged horizontally
  • Dimensions of the capacitor: Ø200 x D280 mm
  • The door is made of transparent acrylic material, which allows observation of the condensation/ice thawing process
  • The door adheres to a silicone gasket specially designed for the vacuum
  • The hinges are located on the right side, the door opening angle is 180ºC;
  • The maximum capacity of the condenser is 5.5 kg (4 +/- 5% kg / 24 h)
  • Cooling and heating system of the condenser in the form of a spiral installed outside the condenser
  • Inside the condenser, there are no elements that would hinder cleaning and disinfection
  • Final temperature of the condenser lower than <-85 °C

Thermal fluid system:
  • The heating/cooling system of the shelves is done by forced circulation of the fluid inside the shelves. The thermal fluid is silicone oil suitable for low and high temperature applications.
  • A sealless, magnetic pump ensures rapid fluid circulation to achieve a high level of temperature uniformity and heat transfer efficiency.
  • The heating rate of the shelf averages 1ºC / min.

Cooling system:
  • The refrigeration system is used to cool the shelves during freezing and to cool the condenser;
  • The refrigeration system consists of 2 hermetic compressors mounted in cascade;
  • Environmentally friendly HFC refrigerants free of CFCs and HCFCs are used;
  • Compressors are installed on quiet-blocks, and the system is equipped with flexible hoses to reduce vibration and noise.
  • Cooling power at -40ºC: 209W;
  • Refrigerants:
  • First stage system: R507;
  • Second stage system: R23;
  • Air-cooled refrigeration system;
  • LYOBETA MINI 1P and 2P refrigeration systems are cooled by forced air circulation.

Vacuum system:
  • Two-stage oil-lubricated vane vacuum pump equipped with a gas ballast to prevent vapor condensation in the oil and outlet filter.
  • The vacuum pump is equipped with a safety valve to prevent suction, which closes automatically in the event of a power failure. Thus, the chamber-condenser system is kept under vacuum, while at the same time the pump is vented to avoid oil suction.
  • Automatic control of the vacuum level during the freeze-drying process (the vacuum is controlled by a solenoid valve installed between the vacuum pump and the condenser);
  • Vacuum pump equipped with an outlet filter (oil mist filter);
  • Vacuum pump pumping speed: 8.1 m3/h;

Thermal insulation:
  • The freeze-drying chamber, condenser and piping are thermally insulated with ARMAFLEX;
  • ARMAFLEX is a flexible technical insulation that permanently and reliably prevents condensation on the system;

Housing of the device:
Housing made of powder-coated steel, equipped with feet for adjustment. Housing equipped with a hinged door for easy access to the components of the unit.

Supervision and control system:
  • The PLC controls all functions: plants, recipes, safety systems and alarms;
  • Communication between the user and the PLC is via a user interface;
  • Lyobet's user interface is a touch screen that displays information, an attractive and easy-to-understand graphical presentation;
  • Thanks to the password, the selection of cycles and parameters is allowed;
  • The main functions offered by this control system are:
    • Visualization of equipment status: valves, motors, activators, etc.
    • Display of process events and alarms;
    • Adjustment and monitoring of sublimation drying process parameters;
    • Entering, reading, editing and running recipes for the automatic sublimation drying cycle;
    • Protection against use of the freeze-dryer by unauthorized personnel;
  • Simplified, user-friendly control system interface;
  • Selectable programs: Automatic, semi-automatic and manual programs;

Touchscreen:
Operation and control of the device via a built-in PLC display with a 7'' touch panel;

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC):
The PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) controls all machine functions.
According to the data input and the program inserted into the memory, outputs are activated for the proper operation of the system.
It is connected to the touch screen via a serial port. It includes digital and analog input and output cards. The program is stored in non-volatile EEPROM memory.
The program stored in the controller's memory is able to securely control all functions such as manual operation, semi-automatic and automatic sublimation drying, defrosting, etc. depending on the optional systems ordered.

Sensors:
  • The sensors used for control and monitoring are:
    • Pirani type vacuum probe, installed in the vacuum system for process monitoring / control
    • Two Pt-100 temperature sensors, class A, installed in the condenser and thermal fluid circuit for process monitoring / control.
    • Temperature sensor, Pt-100, class A, for product temperature monitoring;


Microsuite Lab Software
MicroSuiteLab is a control system specially designed and developed by Azbil Telstar for laboratory lyophilizers. This user-friendly system allows easy operation of the lyophilizer, with real-time, on-line component field status, analog parameters, dynamic display of events, alarms and curves, etc.

The system can operate in three modes:

  • Manual mode:
    • Manual mode is mainly used for maintenance and testing purposes, and allows individual activation of components. The PLC controls all interlocks and security features. The manual mode is operated from the touch screen, to activate this mode before use, the correct password must be entered.
  • Semi-automatic mode:
    • Semi-automatic mode allows the user to perform a step of the freeze-drying process, moving to the next step must be confirmed by the user on the touchscreen display.
  • Automatic mode:
    • Automatic mode allows fully automatic execution of a full sublimation drying cycle according to specified profiles. Process recipes can be easily edited on the touch screen. The mode can be turned off, paused, restarted or switched to semi-automatic or manual modes.In automatic mode, the PLC takes safety points into account regardless of the recipe parameters.

The software has a function of graphical visualization of the process (graphical labeling of system elements with information on whether a given element is active at a given time).

Alarm system:
The device has optical as well as acoustic alarms. The alarm system informs the operator of a malfunction. Critical alarms must be reset from the control panel and can interrupt the process being performed at the moment.

Freeze-drying programs (recipes):
For the automatic mode to work properly, the control system requires the creation of a program (recipe), which is then loaded into the PLC.
It is possible to create recipes, save them, retrieve them, and modify them.
Each recipe consists of a series of vacuum and temperature ramps. Based on these values, the PLC generates temperature and vacuum profiles that control the automatic cycle.
It is possible to save 20 recipes, each with 40 steps.
