Cold traps

Cold traps are used to freeze liquids and solids from the gas phase. They are often used: to protect vacuum pumps from impurities; to clean gases from various impurities; to separate desired substances present in a gas. This equipment consists of a cylindrical vessel, which has an inlet and an outlet and is immersed in a cooling liquid, such as nitrogen. As the gas flows through the element, the substances in it, which have a lower boiling point, undergo a condensation phase to a liquid or solid phase. A distinction can be made between single-element and two-element freezers. The single one allows you to cancel out possible leaks, but getting the condensed substance out of the interior is difficult.
